Regarding the NSCEA’s open letter to Pastor Damina, which warned him about alleged heretical teachings, Professor Adesanya-Davies explains the council’s mission. She points out that while Damina may be unaware of their organization, it plays a critical role in representing Christian interests in Nigeria, similar to the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs for Muslims. The NSCEA collaborates closely with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to uphold Christian values and unity.

The letter highlighted several teachings of Pastor Damina that the council deemed misleading, including claims that heaven does not exist and that tithing is unnecessary. The NSCEA criticized his sensationalized sermon titles and communication style, which they argue lack biblical support and reverence.
