Confusion Rocks NPFL As Remo Stars React To Coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s Reported Exit
In a statement released on Wednesday, the reigning Nigeria Premier League champions confirmed that Ogunmodede remains “fully in charge” of the team and continues to enjoy the club’s full support, even as he combines his duties with the Super Eagles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speculations about his resignation began circulating earlier in the week after reports suggested the 45-year-old had parted ways with the club following a disagreement with management. His absence from the sidelines in recent games further intensified the rumours.
Ogunmodede has not been seen in the dugout since Remo Stars’ 5–1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg. He was also absent from the return leg and the club’s 3–1 loss to Kwara United over the weekend. However, it was later revealed that he is currently in Abuja for a CAF B coaching course, part of his professional development efforts.
Addressing the reports, Remo Stars stated:
“Remo Stars Football Club wishes to clarify that our head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, remains an integral part of our technical crew and continues to serve as head coach. Daniel is presently attending a CAF B coaching course in Abuja as part of his continuous professional development and commitment to personal and technical growth.”
The Ikenne-based side also reaffirmed that Ogunmodede will maintain his role with the Nigeria national team, working alongside Super Eagles manager Éric Chelle, as the country prepares for the upcoming FIFA World Cup African play-offs and AFCON 2025.
“He will continue his national assignment with the Nigerian team as we collectively support our nation’s football success,” the statement added.
Ogunmodede, who signed a three-year contract extension in August 2024, keeping him at the club until 2027, has played a pivotal role in Remo Stars’ rise to prominence. Under his leadership, the Sky Blue Stars secured back-to-back second-place finishes before lifting their first-ever NPFL title last season — a feat that has cemented his reputation as one of the league’s most promising tacticians.
