Controversy Swirls As Photos Surface OF Suspended Rivers Assembly Members In UK
Photos have surfaced showing the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in the United Kingdom, sparking reactions on social media. These lawmakers, led by Martin Chike Amaewhule, are believed to be on vacation, awaiting their return to duty. The training, which began on Friday, focuses on enhancing their understanding of governance and the lawmaking process, specifically the “Legislative Dynamics in Presidential and Parliamentary Systems.” The program is being held in Central London and includes workshops and discussions designed to improve their legislative skills. The aim of the training is to better equip the lawmakers for their roles upon returning to Rivers State, with a deeper understanding of legislative intricacies. The suspension of the lawmakers, along with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, follows a declaration by President Bola Tinubu in a broadcast on March 18, 2025. Tinubu, invoking Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to political unrest, suspending the governor, deputy governor, and members of the House of Assembly for an initial six months. The recently released group photos show the suspended lawmakers while outside the country.
