Cooking Gas Price Update: See What Nigerians Are Paying Across All Regions

The retail price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has continued to ease across several parts of Nigeria following improved product supply and lower wholesale prices.

Despite the downward trend, prices remain uneven across the country, with consumers in northern states and remote communities paying considerably more than those in Lagos and other locations close to major LPG depots.

A market survey by Naija News shows that cooking gas currently sells for between ₦1,100 and ₦1,650 per kilogram in major cities nationwide.

However, smaller neighbourhood retailers, especially those located far from loading depots, may charge between ₦1,600 and ₦1,800 per kilogram after factoring in transportation, storage and operational costs.

The current price levels represent a notable decline from the supply crunch experienced in May and parts of June 2026, when retail prices climbed to between ₦2,000 and ₦2,500 per kilogram in some parts of the country.

Cooking Gas Prices Across Nigeria

Residents of Lagos, Ibadan and Abeokuta currently enjoy some of the lowest LPG prices, with gas selling for between ₦1,100 and ₦1,350 per kilogram.

In Benin City, Port Harcourt and Warri, prices range from ₦1,150 to ₦1,400 per kilogram, depending on the retailer and proximity to supply depots.

Consumers in Onitsha and Enugu pay between ₦1,200 and ₦1,450 per kilogram, while those in Abuja and surrounding areas purchase cooking gas for between ₦1,250 and ₦1,500 per kilogram.

Prices are generally higher in the North-West, where residents of Kano and Kaduna pay between ₦1,300 and ₦1,550 per kilogram.

The highest retail prices were recorded in Maiduguri and other parts of the North-East, where consumers currently pay between ₦1,350 and ₦1,650 per kilogram, largely due to the high cost of transporting LPG from southern depots.

Prices may vary within the same city, with customers buying directly from major LPG plants often paying less than those purchasing from neighbourhood retail outlets.

Cost of Refilling Gas Cylinders

Based on prevailing retail prices, the amount consumers pay to refill cooking gas cylinders differs by location.

In Lagos, Ibadan and Abeokuta, refilling a 5kg cylinder costs between ₦5,500 and ₦6,750, while a 6kg refill ranges from ₦6,600 to ₦8,100. A 12.5kg cylinder costs between ₦13,750 and ₦16,875.

In Abuja, consumers pay between ₦6,250 and ₦7,500 for a 5kg refill, while a 12.5kg cylinder costs between ₦15,625 and ₦18,750.

Residents of Kano and Kaduna spend about ₦6,500 to ₦7,750 to refill a 5kg cylinder, while a 12.5kg refill costs between ₦16,250 and ₦19,375.

In Maiduguri and other North-East states, a 5kg refill costs between ₦6,750 and ₦8,250, while consumers pay between ₦16,875 and ₦20,625 to refill a 12.5kg cylinder.

Across the country, the average cost of refilling a 5kg cylinder currently ranges from ₦5,500 to ₦8,250, while a 6kg refill costs between ₦6,600 and ₦9,900. Refilling a standard 12.5kg cylinder costs between ₦13,750 and ₦20,625, depending on location.

Wholesale Prices Continue to Ease

The moderation in retail prices has been driven by lower wholesale rates at major LPG depots.

Earlier market data showed wholesale prices at Lagos depots such as Navgas, NIPCO and 11PLC ranging between ₦1,025 and ₦1,075 per kilogram.

By mid-July, further reductions had been recorded. On July 16, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) lowered its wholesale price to ₦1,010 per kilogram, while NIPCO Lagos maintained ₦1,025. Rainoil Lagos sold at ₦1,030 per kilogram, while Matrix Warri quoted about ₦1,100 per kilogram.

A separate depot market update released on July 30 showed that a 20-metric-tonne truckload sold for approximately ₦19.6 million at Dangote, ₦20 million at Navgas, ₦20.2 million at PPMC Apapa, and ₦21.5 million at both NIPCO and Rainoil. These prices translate to wholesale rates of roughly ₦980 to ₦1,075 per kilogram, excluding transportation and other distribution costs.

Earlier in July, Dangote-affiliated marketers were reported to have sold LPG at ₦985 per kilogram, below the prevailing depot average of around ₦1,030. During the same period, NIPCO, 11PLC, Ardova and Techno Oil quoted ₦1,030 per kilogram, while Navgas and Rainoil sold at approximately ₦1,050 per kilogram.
