Olukoyede, while discussing an investigation into a corruption case, initially mentioned the Senate President but stopped after sensing the mood of the senators.
Akpabio humorously responded, saying, “I’m very glad that the nominee wants to use the Senate President as an example. But Mr. nominee, leave the Senate President for now; look at this direction,” pointing at the opposition lawmakers’ seats.
Subsequently, Olukoyede continued his presentation without naming specific individuals, emphasizing that those fighting corruption often become adversaries to many.
It’s worth noting that this exchange may be related to Akpabio’s own case involving alleged misappropriation of approximately N108.1 billion, as there were reports in April 2021 that he was detained over alleged attempts to bribe the former EFCC boss, Abdulrasheed Bawa, with $350,000.
