Court Denies Bail To EEWYLA Coordinator – EFCC Reacts

A Federal High Court judge in Lagos, Justice Musa Kakaki, has rejected a bail application filed by businesswoman Aminah Momoh-Orimoloye, who is currently being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged ₦500 million fraud.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Aminah, the Coordinator of Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth in Livestock Agriculture (EEWYLA) and founder of Oriyon International Limited, filed the bail motion under Sections 6, 35(4), 36(5) of the Constitution and Section 32 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015. She sought to be released pending the conclusion of the EFCC’s investigation or the filing of formal charges.

The motion was supported by a 13-paragraph affidavit from Johab Agbo of Banwo & Ighodalo, highlighting her alleged unlawful detention since August 5, 2025, the strict and allegedly unreasonable bail conditions, repeated harassment, and her deteriorating health. Aminah, a UK citizen, argued that her fundamental rights were being violated.

The EFCC, in a 29-paragraph counter-affidavit deposed by investigator John Justice, opposed the bail request. The commission maintained that the applicant presented unreliable sureties who provided false information, failed to meet bail conditions, and is a flight risk due to her overseas residency. EFCC also denied claims of mistreatment, asserting that Aminah has access to medical care, proper food, and a conducive environment while in custody.

In his ruling, Justice Kakaki held that the EFCC cannot be blamed for the applicant’s inability to meet the bail terms. He ruled:

“Since the respondent (EFCC) granted bail and the applicant cannot fulfill the bail terms, this cannot be considered a breach of her rights. Having been granted bail, it is incumbent upon the applicant to fulfill the bail conditions.”
