Court Halts PDP Power Tussle, Orders Party To Maintain Status Quo Over Convention Crisis

Presiding Judge, Justice James Omotosho, issued the order on Thursday, cautioning that no action should be taken that could “jeopardize or render the subject matter of the litigation nugatory.”

The directive followed concerns raised by Chris Uche (SAN), one of PDP’s lawyers, who noted that the case was stalling the party’s preparations and appealed for an accelerated hearing.

In response, Justice Omotosho assured that a final judgment would be delivered before the end of October, emphasizing his zero-tolerance for delay tactics.

He stated, “Once a suit is filed and parties have been served, it is the law that no one should take steps that could affect the matter. The court must not be overreached, and any such action can be nullified. Let us respect the rule of law—it is in everyone’s interest.”

Reaffirming his commitment to a swift resolution, the judge added, “The court’s decision will come before the end of October. I personally type my judgments, so there will be no issue of delay.”

Justice Omotosho then scheduled Monday for a definite hearing after confirming that all parties had been properly served.

The case was filed by three aggrieved PDP officials — Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah George (PDP South-South Secretary) — seeking to halt the party’s national convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers are expected to be elected.
