The incident occurred on May 14, 2016, at No. 13 Ibe Street, East Niger Layout, Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area. Following the incident, the officers were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

Presiding over the case, Justice A.O. Okuma ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. The former officers were convicted of conspiracy and murder, offenses under Sections 495(a) and 274(I) of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Volume II, Revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991, as amended.

The defendants received a seven-year prison sentence for conspiracy and life imprisonment for murder. The case was handled by Trulaw Chambers, with C.J. Okeke acting as the lead counsel under the authorization of the Anambra State Attorney General.

Prosecutor Okeke praised the verdict as a triumph and a testament to the efficacy of competent legal representation in securing justice.

The first defendant’s counsel, G.A. Oluwatuase, indicated plans to appeal the judgment. Legal representatives for the second defendant, C.E. Ezenwa, and the third defendant, C.J. Agbata, stated they would review the judgment before deciding on their next steps.
