Court Imposes N150m Fine On Multichoice For Tariff Hike, Orders Free Subscriptions For Nigerians....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja has fined Multichoice Nigeria Ltd. N150 million for disregarding its directive to halt the increase in subscription rates for DStv and Gotv packages.

Chairing the three-member tribunal, Thomas Okosun found Multichoice guilty of contempt for proceeding with the tariff hike despite the interim order issued on April 29.

The tribunal also mandated Multichoice to provide a one-month complimentary subscription to all Nigerian subscribers on its platforms.

The ruling follows legal proceedings initiated by Festus Onifade, who contested the adequacy of Multichoice’s 8-day notice for the price hike, urging the tribunal to intervene.
