Court Of Appeal Affirms Governor Diri’s Victory In Bayelsa Governorship Election

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Governor Douye Diri’s election victory in the November 2023 Bayelsa state governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party. The court ruled that the tribunal was correct in rejecting the LP’s petition, stating it lacked merit. It emphasized that Eradiri and the LP failed to substantiate allegations of Governor Diri and his Deputy’s non-qualification and certificate forgery. Additionally, the court deemed the issue of alleged forged documents attached to form EC8, submitted to INEC by the third respondent, as a pre-election matter outside the tribunal’s jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the panel ordered the appellant to pay costs of two hundred thousand Naira to each respondent involved in the appeal.
