Court Order Ineffectual: TUC And NLC Press On With Nationwide Strike

TUC President, Festus Osifo, stated during a press briefing on Monday, November 13, that the strike would persist until “governments at all levels wake up to their responsibility.”

It’s worth noting that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) issued an interim injunction last Friday, halting members of organized labor from proceeding with the nationwide strike scheduled for November 14.

The court’s president, Justice Benedict Kanyip, issued the order while ruling on an ex-parte application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) on behalf of the Federal Government.

Justice Kanyip specified that the order would remain in effect until the determination of a motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions, which was also submitted by the AGF.

The NLC and TUC had declared a nationwide strike following the extraordinary National Executive Council meeting in Abuja last Tuesday, prompted by the assault on NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State the previous week.
