The motion, dated December 20 and submitted on December 24, was filed jointly by the ICPC and the Department of State Services (DSS). Babajide Akeredolu, speaking on behalf of the family, issued a statement on Monday describing the gesture as “premature and insincere,” even though they acknowledged the project’s significance to the late governor.

The statement read, “We recognize and appreciate Governor Aiyedatiwa for performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the judicial complex, a project close to Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s heart as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a strong supporter of the judiciary. However, the current political dynamics surrounding the project are evident. Naming a project after someone before its completion is premature and insincere.”
