The defendants, whose addresses remain unknown, are facing charges of murder and conspiracy, with the prosecution led by Insp Olubu Apata claiming that the offenses took place in February 2024 in Ado-Ekiti.
According to Apata, the defendants encountered the victim, Comfort James, at a brothel. Following negotiations, she accompanied them to their residence, where a dispute over payment arose. Allegedly, they strangled her and administered pesticides, leading to her demise.
The charges against the defendants contravene Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, as outlined by Apata. The prosecutor requested the court to remand the defendants in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). The pleas of the defendants were not considered.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Kehinde Awosika, in response, ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional facility until legal advice is obtained. The case has been adjourned until March 21 for mention.
In related developments reported by LIB, the victim, Comfort James, was last seen on February 6 at her residence in Isato Street, Ado Ekiti. She was reportedly picked up at a brothel by Saviour Daniel and did not return. The NSCDC Ekiti State Commandant, Agboola Sunday Adisa, disclosed that the command received a complaint alleging her kidnapping.
The suspects demanded a ransom of N1 million from the victim’s friend, leading to the involvement of the NSCDC. Upon investigation, the suspects admitted to kidnapping the victim under the guise of soliciting her services. Tragically, they confessed to raping and murdering her before dumping her body in a nearby farmland. The suspects also took the victim’s cellphone and continued to demand ransom from her friends and family.
