Court Showdown: FG Charges Borno Youth Leader Over Alleged Boko Haram Connection

The Federal Government on Wednesday arraigned the President of the Borno State Youths Association (BOSYA), Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over terrorism-related allegations linked to his alleged dealings with Boko Haram.

Kaigama, who was recently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), appeared before Justice Salim Ibrahim, who ordered that he remain in DSS custody pending the commencement of his trial.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until September 25, 2026, for the prosecution to begin presenting its case.

Although the full details of the charges were not immediately disclosed in court, the case is reportedly connected to allegations that Kaigama maintained contacts with Boko Haram members and was involved in discussions surrounding ransom payments for kidnapped victims.

The allegations stem from comments Kaigama made during an interview on Channels Television, where he admitted engaging with Boko Haram members over issues relating to ransom demands for abductees.

Security sources also claimed the DSS had obtained evidence allegedly linking the BOSYA president to the extortion of families of kidnapping victims.
