Cross River State Government Promises Construction Of Cross River-Benue Border Road To Boost Economic Activities

The government of Cross River State has made a commitment to initiate the construction of the Cross River-Benue Border Road, spanning 39 kilometers, with the aim of enhancing economic activities between the state and Benue State.

According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche, Governor Bassey Otu conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the long-abandoned border road project, which has been stagnant for nearly two decades.

During a meeting with Chief Denis Ugede, the Clan Head of Wanokom, and other chiefs in his palace, Governor Otu expressed his determination to revitalize the economic vitality of the Ukelle region, particularly the northern flank that shares a border with Benue State.

He highlighted the significance of the road project in addressing the challenges faced by the local community and affirmed his personal commitment to commencing construction work once the dry season arrives.

The governor emphasized his goal of creating accessible roads to rejuvenate the socio-economic activities in these border communities and improve the living conditions of the people.

Governor Otu praised the traditional institution for its support of his predecessor, Prof. Ben Ayade, and assured the community of his administration’s dedication to elevating the standard of living in Ukelle.

Chief Denis Ugede expressed his gratitude to the governor, emphasizing the immense relief the completion of the road would bring to the Ukelle nation.

He highlighted the years of hardship faced by farmers due to the lack of access roads for transporting their agricultural produce and expressed his optimism that Governor Otu would fulfill the long-awaited promise.

Furthermore, stakeholders, represented by former member of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Ogana Lukpata, commended Governor Otu for his unprecedented on-the-spot assessment of the roads in the area after a prolonged period of neglect.

The community was pleasantly surprised by the governor’s proactive approach and expressed hope for a positive change in their region.
