Bomodi highlighted a significant 272% increase in imports compared to the same period in 2023, underscoring the command’s proactive efforts in facilitating trade along the strategic Lagos-Abidjan corridor. Recognizing its pivotal role in West Africa’s economy, he emphasized the corridor’s importance and noted the European Union’s interest in funding infrastructure development in the area.

He advocated for improved telecommunication infrastructure and rail networks to bolster legitimate trade activities along the corridor. Bomodi stressed the symbiotic relationship between Nigeria and other West African markets, emphasizing the necessity of smooth trade facilitation to minimize unnecessary obstacles.

“We are committed to ensuring our processes are streamlined, simplified, and accessible to the trading public,” Bomodi stated, emphasizing the command’s focus on automating and optimizing customs procedures. He highlighted substantial growth in both export and import sectors, resulting in increased revenue generation for the command.

Bomodi attributed the rising usage of the Seme command to its improved trade facilitation measures and collaborative efforts with Benin Republic counterparts to harmonize customs procedures. This initiative aims to establish border areas as unified hubs for cargo examination and release, regardless of the destination.

He urged prospective exporters and importers to adhere strictly to customs requirements and due processes to avoid goods forfeiture, underscoring the importance of informed compliance in cross-border trade operations.
