Adeniyi disclosed that the illegal substance, believed to have been smuggled from the Republic of Benin, was en route to the Ogere Remo trailer park in Ogun State. From there, it was intended to be transported to the Northern regions of the country using state highway routes.
However, Customs’ Field Operations Unit operatives, conducting routine patrols, intercepted the shipment around 03:15 am along the Sokoto – Ijoun road.
The arrested suspects, identified as Mr. Akeem Olatunde (the driver) and Mr. Abdul Nurudeen Adedeji (a passenger), are currently in custody for further investigation.
During his inaugural official visit to NCS Command 2, Adeniyi assured stakeholders, including representatives from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), of the Customs Service’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors and their enterprises to flourish within Nigeria.
Emphasizing that Customs’ revenue growth is intertwined with the success of investors, Adeniyi revealed that the Western Marine Command had apprehended another shipment just five days earlier. This particular seizure amounted to N650 million worth of Indian Hemp, weighing 11,539 kg.
