The incident took place on January 2 when bandits attacked Al-Kadriyar’s residence in Zuma 1, Bwari area of Abuja. Tragically, Abdulfatai Al-Kadriyar, Mansur’s younger brother, who led a team of police officers to the scene, lost his life during a gun battle with the bandits.

Al-Kadriyar recounted the sequence of events, stating that the assailants arrived at his new apartment on the night of January 2. Describing the attack, he said, “I came out after and sat down at the sitting room to relax. I later observed my Ishai prayer but was not feeling too okay to eat dinner, so I asked my daughter to prepare pap (a porridge made from grain) for me.”

The situation escalated when Al-Kadriyar realized that the individuals outside were armed robbers. He and his wife rushed to turn off the lights, and the children secured themselves in their rooms. Attempts to seek help proved challenging due to confusion.

Al-Kadriyar reached out to his brother, Abdulfatai, who, unfortunately, lost his life during the rescue attempt. The bandits, after breaking into the house, demanded money, tied Al-Kadriyar with a rope, and assembled his daughters.

During their captivity, the bandits questioned Al-Kadriyar about his occupation and demanded a ransom. He recalled an instance during the ordeal, saying, “While walking into the bush, there was one among them who was friendly with us. I told him, ‘Aboki, what do you want? Don’t treat me like this.’ He was trying to speak Yoruba; he said, ‘Money, you have money?'”

The captors asked for a substantial sum, slapped Al-Kadriyar, and continued their journey through the bush. The family endured hours of walking, including a pause where they were covered with wrappers for rest. The bandits eventually asked Al-Kadriyar to kneel before their leader, questioning if he was a soldier.

Throughout the ordeal, Al-Kadriyar emphasized his lack of financial capacity, explaining that the house they occupied was not yet completed, and he was just a civil servant. The family eventually crossed a stream and a mountain before reaching the location where the bandit leader was stationed.
