A 35-year-old Nigerian man, Damola Adamolekun, is gaining international acclaim following his appointment as the new CEO of Red Lobster. Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Adamolekun is being hailed by global media as a “biz whiz kid.”

Previously, Adamolekun served as the top executive and the first Black CEO of the Asian-fusion restaurant P.F. Chang’s. His tenure was marked by impressive financial achievements, including generating an estimated $1 billion in revenue, according to the National Restaurant Association. Before joining the restaurant industry, Adamolekun was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, highlighting his extensive background in finance.

Red Lobster, the well-known seafood chain, filed for bankruptcy in May 2024, facing over $1 billion in debt due to years of mismanagement, inflation, and stiff competition. Adamolekun’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to rescue the struggling chain. His experience and expertise are considered vital in addressing the company’s financial troubles.

Adamolekun’s career has been defined by his blend of finance and operational leadership, which he described in an interview with Fortune. He detailed his hands-on approach to managing restaurant performance, emphasizing the integration of work into his life. “I never really have been a person that separated work and life,” he said, underscoring his commitment to his professional endeavors.

After leaving P.F. Chang’s, Adamolekun returned to the investment firm Paulson & Co. in August 2023, further solidifying his reputation in the financial world. His return to the restaurant industry with Red Lobster under the ownership of Fortress Investment Group comes with high expectations. Executives at Fortress believe that Adamolekun’s energy, leadership, and experience will play a crucial role in restoring Red Lobster’s reputation as an iconic American brand.
