Despite the fluctuating value of the Nigerian currency against the dollar, Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, has maintained his position as the richest man in Africa, as reported by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI).
Bloomberg’s latest daily ranking of billionaires, released on Tuesday, highlights that Dangote holds a fortune of $15.6 billion, surpassing other African individuals on the index.
Among the other African billionaires included in the latest edition of the top 500 world billionaires for 2023 are Johann Rupert and his family from South Africa, valued at $13.3 billion. Nicky Oppenheimer from South Africa, Nassef Sawiris from Egypt, Natie Kirsh from South Africa, and Naguib Sawiris also feature on the list, with respective net worths of $9.0 billion, $7.47 billion, $7.37 billion, and $5.93 billion. These five individuals are the only other Africans featured in the ranking.
At the global level, Elon Musk and Bernard Arnault hold the first and second positions as the wealthiest individuals, with fortunes of $219 billion and $194 billion, respectively. Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates follow closely behind with $151 billion and $130 billion, respectively. Larry Ellison secures the fifth spot on the world’s billionaires’ chart with $130 billion.
