Dani Carvajal Leaves Real Madrid After 23 Years, Joins Getafe On Free Transfer

Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has joined Getafe on a free transfer after leaving the Spanish giants following the expiration of his contract in June.

Getafe confirmed the signing on Tuesday through their official account on X, welcoming the experienced right-back to the club. The 34-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at the La Liga side until June 2027.

The move marks a new chapter in Carvajal’s career, bringing him back to the southern suburbs of Madrid, where he was born. Getafe are currently 11th in the Spanish top flight.

Carvajal spent 23 years at Real Madrid, establishing himself as one of the club’s most successful players. During his time with the Spanish giants, he won 27 trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles.

At international level, the defender earned 51 caps for Spain and was part of the national team that won the UEFA Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.

However, injuries significantly disrupted his recent seasons. Carvajal suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October 2024 before sustaining another serious knee injury a year later, affecting his availability and ability to maintain regular playing time.

His situation at Real Madrid was further complicated by the arrival of England international Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer of 2025, which increased competition for the right-back position.

With his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu having expired, Carvajal has now opted for a fresh challenge at Getafe as he looks to continue his professional career.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the experienced defender’s move represents a significant addition for Getafe, who will hope his wealth of experience and history of success at club and international level can strengthen their squad ahead of the remainder of the season.
