Dark Times: Michael Ejoor Opens Up On Suicide Attempt And Battle With Depression
Nollywood actor Michael Ejoor has spoken candidly about his long battle with depression and the suicide attempts he survived.
In a podcast conversation with Jay On Air, Ejoor revealed that his struggle with depression began 14 years ago, following his diagnosis.
He recalled making several attempts to end his life, including one in the United Kingdom where he deliberately stepped into the path of a moving car.
The actor said his mental health challenges were deeply rooted in feelings of rejection during his childhood, which left him believing he was unloved and unwanted.
Despite his success on screen, Ejoor admitted he carried silent emotional pain, describing himself as a troubled child who felt undervalued. Depression, he explained, robbed him of hope, to the point where he could not imagine living beyond the next day.
At first, he kept his diagnosis private, but with encouragement from a close friend, he eventually found the courage to speak out.
“I didn’t think anybody liked me. I didn’t think anything was going well for me. At one point, I even believed my own father hated me,” he said. “Despite appearing in Nollywood films, I was struggling silently. I saw myself as a terrible child who never received enough recognition or support.”
