Date Set For Court Hearing On Emefiele’s Seized Assets

During the hearing, Bilikisu Buhari-Bala from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) noted that the court had issued an interim forfeiture order on August 15. This order covered $2.045 million and several properties associated with Emefiele. The EFCC was directed to publish this order in a national newspaper, which was done on August 28.

Olalekan Ojo, SAN, representing Emefiele, informed the court of his application to stay further proceedings on the forfeiture case and requested an adjournment until September 9 to address these applications. Additionally, Chibuzor Opara, who represents the occupants of one of the contested properties at No. 8a Adekunle Lawal Road, Ikoyi, requested an adjournment to receive necessary documents and prepare for his clients’ defense.

Justice Dipeolu granted the adjournment and scheduled the next hearing for September 12 to address all applications. The case involves several properties, including residential and commercial estates in Lagos and Delta State, as well as shares in a company owned by Emefiele. The court will determine whether these assets will be permanently forfeited to the Nigerian government.
