Datti Baba-Ahmed Drops Bombshell: Why Peter Obi Must Not Be VP In 2027 Opposition Alliance

Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed argued that Obi’s performance in the 2023 elections should disqualify him from running as a vice presidential candidate in 2027.

According to him, the coalition’s presidential ticket should be contested among Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi — but Obi should not play second fiddle.

“The office of Vice President is significant. I once aspired to it and was unfairly rigged out. But I don’t believe Peter Obi should be VP again, especially after receiving a contested 10 million votes,” Baba-Ahmed said.

He also rejected the popular view that only a coalition can defeat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the 2023 election results as proof.

“In 2023, without any coalition, the Labour Party outperformed both the APC and PDP. This idea that we must form alliances to win is just a narrative that caught on too quickly,” he stated.

According to Baba-Ahmed, the true coalition that matters is not among politicians, but in the unity of voters at the ballot box.

“The real coalition should happen inside the ballot boxes. It’s about consolidating votes and safeguarding them through to final declaration — not just forming alliances among opposition leaders,” he added.
