According to reports, the assaults took place on Tuesday night, claiming the lives of no fewer than 15 people. The affected communities—Otobi-Akpa and Emichi in Otukpo LGA, and Utonkon in Ado LGA—were thrown into mourning after gunmen launched brutal assaults on residents.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser, Paul Mumeh, Mark expressed deep concern over what he described as a shift from isolated incidents to a deliberate and coordinated offensive.
“This is no longer a case of random violence. It has all the signs of a calculated, premeditated onslaught. We cannot afford to remain passive while our people are being slaughtered without cause,” he said.
Mark called on security agencies to act swiftly and decisively, stressing the urgent need to address the escalating insecurity in the region.
He also encouraged communities to organize local vigilante groups to help protect their lives and property, noting that the situation now demands urgent, grassroots-level response.
“While it’s important to remain hospitable, our people must also be vigilant and able to distinguish between genuine residents and those who may pose a threat,” he added.
David Mark offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls, and urged the people of Benue to remain calm while cooperating with security forces working to restore peace.
