Davido Asks Dangote Why Nigerians Should Invest In Refinery, Billionaire Gives Answer
Afrobeats star Davido has asked billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote to explain why Nigerians should consider buying shares in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Davido posed the question during a recent interaction with Dangote in New York, where the pair were seen together as the refinery’s Initial Public Offering was promoted on a Nasdaq digital billboard in Times Square.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Davido asked Dangote about the importance of Nigerians having a stake in the refinery and what wider ownership of the company could mean for the country and the continent.
Responding to the question, Dangote said broader ownership of the refinery would provide an avenue for wealth and prosperity to be distributed more widely across Africa.
“Well, it’s very important because that is the only way to spread prosperity and wealth throughout Africa. And like I said, this is not going to be the first and the last. We will continue with even our fertilizer,” Dangote said.
The billionaire businessman added that he envisaged a situation where Nigerians and other eligible investors would eventually own stakes in more of his businesses as they become publicly listed.
“By the time we finish listing, every single one will own part of our businesses and we will create a pool of cash,” he added.
Davido subsequently thanked Dangote for the explanation.
The interaction came amid the promotion of the Dangote Refinery IPO, which has been presented as an opportunity to broaden ownership of the massive petroleum facility among Nigerians and other eligible investors.
The refinery’s IPO was launched in September 2026, with the offering aimed at giving investors an opportunity to acquire shares in the business. The initiative has been described as a “people’s IPO” as Dangote seeks wider participation in the ownership of the refinery.
The refinery’s appearance on a digital billboard in New York’s Times Square also drew attention to the company’s effort to promote its Nigerian identity and global ambitions.
