According to him, his willingness to show a laid-back, unfiltered version of himself sets him apart and has made him the most-followed African artist online.

In a recent chat with BET Talks, the “With You” crooner explained that his success on social media stems from his transparent and engaging approach — unlike many of his peers who shy away from revealing their true selves.

“I’m the most-followed African artist because I keep it real with my fans,” Davido said. “Early in my career, I used to do vlogs, taking fans inside my world. Most Nigerian and African artists are hesitant to expose their authentic selves.”

He added that his experience in the U.S. broadened his mindset:
“Living in America helped open my mind. Some artists won’t be caught taking pictures in shorts and slippers at home, but I don’t mind. I still see myself as a regular guy. When it’s time to party, I party, but I also chill like everyone else.”

Davido concluded by saying some Nigerian celebrities tend to overthink their image:
“When I came back to Nigeria, I noticed that. But I’ve always believed in staying relaxed and going with the flow. That’s how it should be.”
