Davido Ends Custody Fight With Sophia Momodu: ‘Imade Lost, Leave My Late Son Out

Award-winning Nigerian singer Davido Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially withdrawn from the custody battle over his first daughter, Imade.

Davido and his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, appeared in court on Thursday, February 12, for a hearing on a lawsuit seeking joint custody of Imade.

Tensions flared during the proceedings when Sophia’s lawyer questioned how Davido could ensure Imade’s safety given that he was unable to protect his late son, Ifeanyi, who passed away in October 2022.

The comment reportedly enraged Davido, prompting a heated exchange in the courtroom. Proceedings were temporarily paused, and when the court resumed, the judge asked Davido to apologise to both the court and the lawyer. The singer, however, refused, insisting he would never apologise for the lawyer invoking his deceased son against him.

On Friday, Davido took to his handle to explain his decision, stating that no one “won” in the case, and emphasizing that the only person who lost was Imade. He made it clear that referencing his late son was unacceptable and confirmed that he had dropped the case, adding that his daughter will know he fought for her.

He wrote:

“1. I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody.
2. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate.
3. I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was schooling that lawyer in court, she got so frustrated … until she played her final card: MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO-NO! Lowest blow!
4. My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on ❤️ One love!”
