Naira Abuse Case: Ethnic Considerations in Prosecution Criticized by Lawyer Idam

In another perspective on the matter, human rights activist and lawyer Maduabuchi Idam criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he perceives as playing the ethnic card in the arrest of Cubana Chief Priest.

Idam accused the EFCC of engaging in a symbolic gesture to appease the Southwest, following the conviction of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, for naira abuse. He questioned the EFCC’s priorities, suggesting that the agency should focus on investigating serious allegations such as budget padding, rather than pursuing cases like Cubana Chief Priest’s.

In a statement, Idam described the prosecution of Cubana Chief Priest as a waste of time, suggesting that it was either a result of the EFCC’s idleness or an attempt to generate attention. He urged the EFCC to address more pressing issues instead of diverting resources to what he considers frivolous prosecutions.
