The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strongly condemned the results of Saturday’s local government elections in Ondo State, describing the process as blatant theft.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The election, conducted by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), covered all 18 local government areas and 203 wards. Despite participation from 12 political parties, voter turnout was reportedly low, attributed to the heavy presence of armed security forces.

ODIEC declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state.

However, in a press statement issued in Akure on Monday, SDP Chairman Ebenezer Akinbuli alleged widespread irregularities, fraud, intimidation, and favoritism toward the APC.

Akinbuli claimed that in areas such as Ondo East and Odigbo LGAs, the absence of security personnel at polling units forced SDP members to act as security, which further discouraged voter turnout. He also accused ODIEC of colluding with the APC, citing pre-marked ballot papers and irregularities in result collation.

“We condemn the outcome of this election because it lacked compliance with established rules. It was broad daylight robbery,” Akinbuli said.

He alleged that presiding officers were provided with blank sheets instead of proper result sheets and that collation was conducted not at designated centers but at ODIEC’s office.

The SDP Chairman also reported an attack on an SDP candidate in Ondo East and demanded the resignation of the ODIEC chairman, accusing him of overseeing a fraudulent electoral process. Akinbuli pledged to challenge the election results at the local government election tribunal.
