Deadly Blow To Terror: Soldiers Eliminate Notorious Commander, Free Hostages In Daring Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have eliminated a notorious terrorist commander, identified as Amirul Fiya, also known as Abu Nazir, alongside several of his fighters during a foiled attack in Balge Local Government Area, Borno State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, revealed that troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, unexploded ordnance, two rocket-propelled grenades, and other items during the operation.

According to Anele, the Nigerian Army has recently recorded major operational successes across the country, neutralising a top terrorist leader, apprehending criminal suspects, and seizing assorted weapons.

She explained that on 7 August 2025, troops of 3 Battalion stationed at Forward Operating Base Rann Kala in Balge LGA repelled an attack by ISWAP/JAS insurgents. “At first light, troops discovered the bodies of three terrorists, including their commander, Amirul Fiya (aka Abu Nazir), while blood trails indicated others fled with injuries. The recovery included one AK-47 rifle, an unexploded ordnance, two RPGs, and other equipment,” she stated.

In a follow-up mission on 9 August, troops working with the Civilian Joint Task Force and Hybrid Force found another terrorist corpse, along with a QJC 88-barrel gun, an AA gun tripod, 20 rounds of 12.7 x 108mm ammunition, a backpack, and a bicycle.

Anele also disclosed that on 8 August 2025 in Zamfara State, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2, acting on credible intelligence, confronted terrorists along the Gusau–Kaura Namoda road in Unguwar Sariki Musulmi, forcing them to flee and enabling the rescue of two kidnapped victims who have been reunited with their families.

In Ebonyi State, on 9 August, troops of 24 Special Engineer Regiment responded to a communal clash between Iyimagwu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo LGA. They came under fire from an abandoned building, returned fire, and killed one armed suspect. Recovered items included a G3 rifle, 50 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four hand grenades.

She reaffirmed the army’s commitment to working closely with other security agencies to sustain peace and security across the nation.
