Delta Governor Responds To Nwoko’s Demands For Project Financing

In a statement from the Governor’s Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, Oborevwori highlighted the importance of respecting the separation of powers among different levels of government. He advised Nwoko to focus on his legislative responsibilities and collaborate with President Bola Tinubu and other members of the National Assembly to secure benefits for his district.

“If Senator Nwoko believes in the importance of the Okpai IPP, he should work through the Federal Government, not press the state government to fund it,” Ifeajika remarked. He clarified that the Okpai IPP, initiated in 2002 and completed in 2005, is under federal jurisdiction.

The project was designed to contribute power to the national grid, and any distribution-related issues fall under the Federal Government’s responsibility.

The statement also criticized Nwoko for attempting to pressure the state government into funding a project that was not initiated at the state level, pointing out that his own constituency faces significant infrastructure challenges, including deteriorating roads, which also require urgent attention.

“Senator Nwoko should focus on advocating for federal action to ensure power distribution as agreed, rather than pressuring the governor to allocate state funds for federal projects,” the statement added.

The governor’s office emphasized the need for collaboration between Nwoko and the state government, suggesting that as the only PDP senator from Delta State, Nwoko should work constructively with Oborevwori to address both local and federal issues.
