Democracy Day Bombshell! Tinubu Unveils Star-Studded National Honours List – See Who Made The Cut

The honours were conferred during his address to the nation at the National Assembly in commemoration of Democracy Day.

Those recognised posthumously include Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (GCFR), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu (CON), Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (CON), Alhaji Balarabe Musa (CFR), Pa Alfred Rewani (CFR), Bagauda Kaltho (OON), Chima Ubani (OON), Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti (CON), Alao Aka Bashorun (CON), Chief Frank Kokori (CON), Emma Ezeazu (OON), Bamidele Aturu (OON), Fredrick Fasehun (CON), Prof. Festus Iyayi (CON), Dr. John Yima Sen (OON), Alhaja Sawaba Gambo (CON), Dr. Edwin Madunagu (CON), Dr. Alex Ibru (CON), Chief Bola Ige (CFR), Pa Reuben Fasoranti (CFR), Sen. Other honourees include Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka (GCON), Prof. Olatunji Dare (CON), journalist Kunle Ajibade (OON), Nosa Igiebor (OON), Dapo Olorunyomi (OON), Bayo Onanuga (CON), Ayo Obe (OON), Dare Babarinsa (CON), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah (CON), Sen. Shehu Sani (CON), Governor Uba Sani (CON), Barr. Femi Falana, SAN (CON), Prof. Shafideen Amuwo (CON), Barr. Luke Aghanenu (OON), Sen. Tokunbo Afikuyomi (CON), Hon. President Tinubu also announced the conferment of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) on veteran journalist and publisher, Uncle Sam Amuka Pemu, in celebration of his 90th birthday on June 13.

Additionally, Tinubu posthumously honoured environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa (CON) and other members of the Ogoni Nine: Saturday Dobee (OON), Nordu Eawo (OON), Daniel Gbooko (OON), Paul Levera (OON), Felix Nuate (OON), Baribor Bera (OON), Barinem Kiobel (OON), and John Kpuine (OON). He announced that he would be granting full presidential pardons to these individuals and others, in consultation with the National Council of State.

Finally, the President decorated the presiding officers of the National Assembly with the national honours previously awarded to them last year.
