Democracy Must Prevail!” – Fubara Addresses Rivers Citizens After Suspension

During a nationwide broadcast, President Tinubu announced the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.

As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the interim administrator to oversee the affairs of Rivers State.

In reaction to his suspension, Governor Fubara urged the people of Rivers State to remain calm.

BY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE

My dear Rivers People,

I address you today with a deep sense of responsibility and calm as we navigate this unfortunate chapter in our state’s political history.

Since assuming office as your Governor, my actions and decisions have been guided by my constitutional oath and a profound sense of duty. Our priorities have always been the protection of lives and property and ensuring the continuous progress of Rivers State.

Despite political challenges, we have remained committed to constitutional order and the rule of law, always placing the interests of our people above all else.

That is why, following President Tinubu’s intervention to restore peace, we honored the agreed terms in good faith—including reinstating commissioners who had previously resigned. Furthermore, we swiftly implemented the Supreme Court’s judgment upon receiving the certified true copy, ensuring stability in the state.

These steps were never about personal gains but about fostering peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State.

Unfortunately, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have continuously obstructed our efforts, making genuine peace and progress difficult.

Nevertheless, we have ensured that governance continues. Salaries have been paid, development projects are ongoing, and most importantly, Rivers State remains safe, secure, and peaceful under our administration.

At this crucial time, I urge all Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding. We will engage with the necessary institutions to protect our democracy and ensure Rivers State continues to thrive.

Rivers people are resilient. We will face this challenge with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in democracy.
