Deputy Commissioner Of Police Abba Kyari Faces Allegations And Investigations In Connection With Hushpuppi Fraud Case

In July 2021, Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police who had been suspended, found himself embroiled in a controversy after being indicted by Raman Abbas, known as Hushpuppi. On February 14, 2022, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) declared Kyari a wanted individual, connecting him to a drug cartel. Simultaneously, Kyari was apprehended by the police and subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for prosecution.
Police Commissioner Austin Braimoh addressed the situation in an interview with Punch, emphasizing that the details of Kyari’s case should be presented to the commission for further deliberation.
Braimoh clarified that the Police Service Commission had not yet received a comprehensive report on Kyari’s alleged involvement in the crime. He underscored the importance of weighing Kyari’s actions against professional ethics and allowing the court to address the criminal aspects of the case.
When questioned about whether the commission had engaged with police authorities regarding the matter, Braimoh stated that the commission refrains from initiating inquiries, as it may appear to have ulterior motives. Presently, no information has been presented before the commission for adjudication.
