Desperate And Unserious! Keyamo Tears Into Obi Over Vice Presidential Bid

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has criticised the possibility of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accepting a vice-presidential slot under Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday night, Keyamo warned that such a move would portray Obi as “desperate and unserious.”

Obi had previously served as Atiku’s running mate during the 2019 elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Rumours have since circulated that the duo might reunite under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming polls.

Commenting on the development, Keyamo said:

“It’s political doom for them. That coalition offers no path forward. Just imagine Obi as VP candidate in 2019, presidential candidate in 2023, and then VP candidate again in 2027—it paints a picture of a desperate, inconsistent individual.”

Keyamo Blames Wi-Fi Delay at Airports on Inter-Agency Conflict

In a separate interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Keyamo shed light on why Nigerian international airports still lack Wi-Fi services. He explained that a prolonged turf war between two aviation agencies—NAMA (Nigerian Airspace Management Agency) and FAAN (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria)—stalled progress.

NAMA, he said, claimed responsibility for Wi-Fi based on its mandate to manage all navigation, radio, and communication infrastructure. Meanwhile, FAAN insisted that Wi-Fi infrastructure falls under its legal jurisdiction as part of airport facilities.

“FAAN said Wi-Fi is part of airport infrastructure, which they manage. NAMA argued it falls under communication systems, which is their domain. The back-and-forth dragged until late 2023,” Keyamo explained.

The impasse was eventually resolved when Keyamo directed FAAN to step back, allowing NAMA to take full responsibility. However, by then, the 2024 budget had already been passed, leaving no room for new allocations to support Wi-Fi implementation.

Keyamo assured that the project is now included in the 2025 budget and will begin by year’s end.

“Wi-Fi will be functional at Terminal 2 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport by the end of 2025,” he announced.

To ensure long-term sustainability, the ministry is working on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model that will support the deployment, maintenance, and future expansion of Wi-Fi services across airports.

“The PPP framework will guarantee both functionality and reliability across terminals,” Keyamo added.
