Responding to a report by Sahara Reporters, Umeh dismissed the claims as baseless and cautioned the media outlet against engaging in blackmail. He pointed out that this was the third time the platform had published false reports about him.

On Wednesday, Sahara Reporters alleged that senators were each bribed with $10,000 to approve the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, further claiming that Umeh played a role in distributing the funds at a private residence belonging to Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Abuja.

However, Umeh categorically denied these accusations, stating that he was neither present at any such meeting nor involved in any financial dealings related to the matter.

“I did not receive any money to support the approval of a state of emergency in Rivers State. I was not part of any meeting where such payments were allegedly made,” Umeh asserted.

Clarifying his whereabouts, he explained that on Tuesday evening, he attended an Iftar gathering at the Senate Guest House, where he was invited to offer a Christian prayer after Senator Adamu Aliero led the Muslim prayer.

“I prayed for peace across Nigeria and reconciliation among all parties involved in the Rivers State crisis. My prayer was for love and unity among Nigerians for the good of our nation. The issue of a state of emergency in Rivers was never discussed at the Iftar. Several other Labour Party senators were also present,” he explained.

Describing the report as a deliberate act of blackmail, Umeh reassured his constituents that such false narratives would not deter him from his responsibilities.

“This is not the first time Sahara Reporters has published falsehoods about me. Their repeated attempts at blackmail must stop. I remain undistracted by their fabrications and will continue to serve my constituents with honor and integrity,” he declared.
