The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has issued a warning to Corps Members about the prohibition of night travel under the NYSC regulations. He emphasized that any unauthorized journeys will result in sanctions according to NYSC laws. Ahmed delivered this message on Friday during an address to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two Corps Members and Camp Officials at the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja. He advised Corps Members to find safe places such as military barracks, police stations, or Corps Lodges to stay overnight if they are still traveling after 6:00 pm, and to continue their journey the following day.

He urged Corps Members to maintain discipline, be vigilant about their surroundings, and strictly follow NYSC Byelaws throughout their service year. Ahmed also encouraged adherence to camp rules, making positive connections, respecting differing opinions, and actively participating in camp activities.

In her address, delivered by Mandate Secretary of the Youth Development Secretariat Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmood, reaffirmed the FCT administration’s ongoing support for the NYSC. She advised Corps Members to serve as exemplary representatives of their families and to take advantage of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to support self-employment.

NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shopeka, welcomed the 2,557 Corps Members, including 1,098 males and 1,459 females. She noted their adjustment to camp life and readiness to contribute to the development of the Federal Capital Territory. She commended the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for creating a supportive environment for the Orientation Course and reminded Corps Members to act in a disciplined manner, avoiding negative behaviors such as drug abuse.

The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Huseini Baba Yusuf, represented by Justice Mustapha Adamu, administered the Oath of Allegiance to the Corps Members, with the NYSC Director General, Ahmed, and other dignitaries present.
