Prosecutors opposed Combs’s latest bail request, citing concerns over his attempts to contact witnesses while in custody. Authorities allege that Combs used unauthorized communication methods, raising fears of potential witness tampering. Federal Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that no conditions could reasonably assure the safety of the community, leading to the continued detention of the 55-year-old mogul.
In his ruling, Judge Subramanian also rejected Combs’s request to be released to prepare for his defense, stating that Combs had failed to demonstrate that release was necessary for trial preparation. The charges against Combs include accusations that he sexually abused women and coerced them into participating in drug-fueled sex parties under threats of violence.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his criminal trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025. Following his court appearance last week, Combs’s mother, Janice Combs, was confronted by onlookers outside the courthouse, with some calling her son a “predator.”
In their defense, Combs’s legal team pointed to a recent case in which former Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries was granted bail, arguing that the same should apply to Combs. However, prosecutors emphasized the differences between the two cases, noting that the indictment against Combs includes charges related to violent acts, firearms use, and racketeering, which were not part of Jeffries’s case.
The investigation into Combs continues, with prosecutors indicating that further evidence is being reviewed and additional charges may be forthcoming. The public allegations against Combs have been mounting since late last year when singer Cassie Ventura accused him of more than a decade of coercion involving physical force, drugs, and a 2018 rape incident.
