Diplomatic Milestone: Nigeria’s New Zambia Envoy Clark-Omeru Meets President Hichilema
Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to Zambia, Ambassador Queen Efe Alexandra Clark-Omeru, has formally commenced her diplomatic assignment in the country after presenting her Letter of Credence to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
The ceremony, held on Friday at the State House in Lusaka, marked the official accreditation of Clark-Omeru as Nigeria’s highest-ranking diplomatic representative in Zambia. She was accompanied by Mrs Epelle C.A., Nigeria’s former Acting High Commissioner to Zambia.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Clark-Omeru hosted members of the Nigerian community and representatives of major Nigerian-owned businesses operating in Zambia to a luncheon at the Nigerian High Commission.
The gathering was attended by senior officials from Access Bank Zambia, Harvest Group of Companies, United Bank for Africa, Sahara Energy and Dangote Cement, among others.
Speaking at the event, Clark-Omeru expressed appreciation for the warm reception she had received from Nigerians and citizens of other nationalities since assuming her new position. She also welcomed the goodwill and support extended to her as she begins her diplomatic responsibilities in Zambia.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the Managing Director of Access Bank Zambia, Dr Iheanyi Nwogu, congratulated Clark-Omeru on her appointment and pledged the bank’s continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting Nigerian businesses and strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and Zambia.
Nwogu assured the High Commission that Access Bank Zambia remained willing to collaborate on programmes that would advance the interests of Nigeria, support the Nigerian community and contribute to the shared prosperity of both countries.
The Group Managing Director of Harvest Group of Companies Limited, The Very Reverend Adaoha Ugo-Ngadi, also conveyed her best wishes to the ambassador. Represented at the luncheon by the company’s Corporate Communications Lead, Sam Ibemere, Ugo-Ngadi said the group’s vision extended beyond Zambia, with a broader objective of contributing to development across Africa.
She expressed encouragement over Clark-Omeru’s commitment to supporting Nigerian businesses and citizens and said Harvest Group looked forward to initiatives that would contribute to Africa’s progress.
The President of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization in Zambia, Apostle Barrister Joel Akobaro Joseph, also welcomed the new ambassador and reaffirmed the commitment of Nigerians in the diaspora to upholding the country’s reputation.
Joseph noted that Nigerians living abroad had a responsibility to represent the nation positively through their conduct and professional activities, while promoting the values and dignity of Nigeria.
Born in 1972, Ambassador Clark-Omeru is a career diplomat who previously served as Nigeria’s Consul General for the Littoral and West Regions of Cameroon, becoming the first woman to occupy the position. Her diplomatic career has also included postings to South Africa and Argentina, where she served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner and Head of Mission respectively.
Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Clark-Omeru arrived in Lusaka in July 2026 to officially begin her tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Zambia. Her new assignment is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic relations, supporting Nigerian citizens and businesses in Zambia, and deepening cooperation between the two countries.
