Do I Look Sick To You?’ – Wike Explodes Over Health Rumours

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports claiming he is unwell.

In a yet-to-be-aired interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike firmly stated that he is in good health and dismissed the health rumours as the handiwork of detractors.

He said, “As I’m speaking to you, do I look like someone who is sick? Just look at me—would you guess I’m over 30 years old? I’m perfectly fine.”

When asked about speculations that he’s grooming his son for politics, Wike responded, “What’s wrong with that?”

In April, reports alleged that Wike collapsed during an event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was flown abroad for urgent medical treatment. However, two days later, he appeared publicly during a Sallah visit to President Bola Tinubu, where he looked energetic, effectively quelling the rumours.

Meanwhile, Umar Sani, former spokesperson of the PDP’s 2019 presidential campaign, has accused Wike of destabilizing the opposition party.

Speaking to Naija News, Sani criticized the FCT Minister for allegedly using his political clout not to strengthen the PDP but to weaken and dismantle it. Reacting to Wike’s recent media appearance, Sani said Wike’s political career is marked by betrayal and arrogance.

“In the volatile world of Nigerian politics, few are as controversial and unpredictable as Chief Nyesom Wike. Once a powerful PDP figure, he has now become one of its most disruptive forces, using his influence not to build but to break,” Sani said.

He accused Wike of pushing the party to the brink of collapse in 2016 by backing Senator Ali Modu Sheriff during a contentious leadership crisis.

Sani also noted Wike’s role in the rise and fall of former PDP chairmen Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu, accusing him of turning against them once they no longer served his interests.

“Wike talks about justice and fairness, but his actions reveal an obsession with personal ambition and control,” Sani added. “He imposed Ayu as PDP National Chairman, only to later orchestrate his removal after discovering Ayu’s allegiance to Atiku Abubakar, which cost him the presidential ticket.”

Sani also cited Wike’s political fallout with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, describing it as further proof of his inability to maintain alliances—even with his own protégés.

Concluding, Sani warned that Wike’s current alignment with the APC ahead of the 2027 elections could backfire.

“This isn’t about reform—it’s sabotage disguised as strategy. As Wike draws closer to the APC, he may soon discover that history is unforgiving to those who destroy every bridge they cross,” Sani said.
