Dogara Backs Tinubu: Why Nigeria Should Embrace A Second Term For The President

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has called on Nigerians to grant President Bola Tinubu a second term. Dogara highlighted that the President has made bold decisions that are benefiting the nation’s economy.

Speaking at a public lecture marking the 65th birthday of Archbishop John Praise, Dogara praised the President’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy. Acknowledging the hardships Nigerians face due to the policy, he pointed out that difficult decisions often come with sacrifices.

“To me, it was a courageous move to eliminate the subsidy. Every decision has its painful side,” he said.

He further expressed empathy for the struggles many Nigerians endure, with many families going to bed hungry. “This is a time for governance. Let’s allow the President a chance to perform, and then we will judge his progress,” Dogara added.

While advocating for the President’s second chance, Dogara emphasized that Nigerians should ultimately decide the winner of the 2027 election. He also stated that Tinubu should win not through the power of his position but through the strength of his actions and the support of the people.

“He should win based on the good he has done and the support of the people, not because he controls the apparatus of power,” he explained. “The reforms Tinubu has initiated show that he has the courage to lead.”

John Dara, another speaker at the event, also commended President Tinubu for his leadership, noting that his decisions have increased revenue for the country.
