Don’t Rewrite History!” – Omokri Slams Mustapha, Says Tinubu Was The Mastermind Behind APC’s 2015 Win
Recall that during the buildup to the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu had asserted that he was pivotal to Buhari’s 2015 victory. According to him, Buhari had tried and failed to win the presidency three times, even breaking down in tears and vowing not to run again, until Tinubu intervened and pledged support on the condition that Buhari wouldn’t neglect the Yoruba people.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Tinubu had said:
“If not for me standing behind Buhari, he wouldn’t have become President. He tried the first time and failed. The second time, he failed. The third, he failed. He even wept on national television and vowed not to contest again. But I went to Kaduna, encouraged him to run again, and promised to back him — as long as he didn’t joke with the Yoruba. He agreed.”
However, during the launch of Garba Shehu’s book “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience”, Mustapha challenged that claim. He argued that Buhari already commanded a solid 12 million votes before the APC merger and that the coalition only brought in an additional 3 million. He maintained that Buhari’s victory stemmed primarily from his base and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), not Tinubu’s influence.
Responding during an interview on ARISE Television, Omokri lambasted Mustapha’s comments, describing them as misguided.
“Boss Mustapha was just being silly,” Omokri said. “Without Bola Tinubu, Buhari would not have won that election. If Tinubu hadn’t stepped in, President Jonathan would have been re-elected. Buhari would have remained, to borrow his own words, a ‘tiny dot in a circle.’”
On the current state of Nigeria’s political space, Omokri also pushed back against fears of a one-party system, saying:
“More people are joining the APC not because Nigeria is becoming a one-party state, but because of the performance of President Tinubu — whether you like it or not, that’s results.”
