The lawmaker announced his withdrawal personally on Wednesday in a video shared on social media.

He attributed his decision to alleged intimidation of himself and his supporters, claiming that his backers were denied access to the venue of the primary election to cast their votes.

Elliot, the incumbent representative of the constituency, was contesting the party’s ticket for the 2027 election against Barakat Odunuga.

However, at the venue of the exercise, the Executive Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Bamidele Yusuf, maintained that the environment was calm as accreditation and registration of delegates proceeded ahead of voting.

Yusuf dismissed claims circulating on social media about intimidation, insisting that the process remained transparent and credible.

He also noted that the APC had already conducted its Senate and House of Representatives primaries before proceeding to the House of Assembly contest.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Elliot’s bid for a fourth term representing Surulere 1 Constituency has been surrounded by political tension involving the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Gbajabiamila is alleged to have supported the former Lagos Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, as a preferred candidate, reportedly as part of efforts to promote greater female participation in politics.

The development was said to have unsettled Elliot, who was determined to test his popularity in the APC primary election.

Sources also claimed that his fourth-term ambition suffered a setback after appeals made by influential figures on his behalf were reportedly not accepted at the highest political level.
