Drama In Court: Kanu’s Lawyer Agabi Debunks Claims DSS Blocked Access

His statement came in response to a claim made by one of Kanu’s lawyers, Aloy Ejimakor, who alleged via his (formerly Twitter) handle that the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja had blocked Agabi from seeing the detained IPOB leader.

During Wednesday’s court session, Justice James Omotosho asked about the post. In response, Agabi dismissed the allegation, clarifying the situation.

Ejimakor had written, “The DSS needs to explain to Nigerians why it blocked Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, from meeting with his client, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They did this a few minutes ago and the High Chief has left the DSS facility, very upset. This is a flagrant interference with fair trial.”

However, Agabi commended the DSS personnel for their professionalism, stating that a scheduling mix-up caused the issue.

“I was not denied access to the defendant. We had planned the visit with myself, Ikpeazu, Etiaba, and Erokoro. But for some reason, they couldn’t come.

“When I arrived at the gate around 1 p.m., the DSS said our names had not been submitted. To be fair, they treated me with respect. I told them I’d return another day,” he said.

Agabi added that he was surprised and upset to find out a member of his legal team had gone online to claim he was blocked from seeing Kanu.

When questioned by the judge about the misleading post, Ejimakor explained he assumed Agabi was angry about being denied access based on their phone conversation. Agabi clarified that his anger stemmed from Ejimakor giving him the wrong appointment time.
