Drama In Court: Trial Of Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman Stalls Due To Missing Interpreter

The money laundering trial of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, at the Federal High Court in Abuja was postponed on Friday due to the unavailability of an interpreter.

The case, which was set to proceed with a trial-within-trial segment, could not move forward as the prosecution encountered difficulties in providing an interpreter for the proceedings.

When the case was mentioned, the prosecuting counsel, A.O. Mohammed, informed the court that the designated court interpreter was assigned to another official duty, and despite efforts, a replacement could not be arranged in time.

Mohammed subsequently sought a brief adjournment to ensure the interpreter’s availability for the continuation of the trial.

The defence counsel, Emmanuel Hassan, did not oppose the request, prompting the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, to adjourn the matter to May 8 and 9, 2025.

 Mamman is facing a 12-count charge related to a conspiracy to launder funds totaling ₦33.8 billion.
