Drama In Kano: NNPP, APC Share Victory In Fierce Electoral Battle
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) secured victory in the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election in Kano, with the result declared at 12:36 a.m. on Sunday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Returning Officer, Professor Hassan Adamu Shitu, announced that NNPP’s Dr. Ali Hassan Kiyawa polled 16,198 votes, defeating Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 5,347 votes.
In a separate contest, the APC claimed victory in the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election. Professor Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University declared Garba Ya’u Gwarmai of the APC winner with 31,472 votes, while NNPP’s Yusuf Ali Maigado garnered 27,931 votes.
The supplementary election followed the earlier declaration of the poll as inconclusive.
Meanwhile, NNPP leaders staged a sit-in at the INEC office in Kano, alleging attempts to manipulate the Ghari/Tsanyawa results. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, insisted they would remain there until the official results were released.

The NNPP has clinched the Bagwai/Shanono Assembly seat in Kano, with its candidate Dr. Ali Hassan Kiyawa winning 16,198 votes against APC’s Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu, who managed 5,347. The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Hassan Adamu Shitu, early Sunday morning.
However, the APC struck back in the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary poll, where Prof. Muhammad Waziri declared Garba Ya’u Gwarmai winner after he polled 31,472 votes, ahead of NNPP’s Yusuf Ali Maigado with 27,931.
The supplementary poll was necessary after the first election was ruled inconclusive.
Amid the announcement, some NNPP stalwarts stormed INEC’s Kano office, accusing the commission of foul play. According to Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, they vowed not to leave until the results were made public.
