Drama In Labour Party: Abure Urges Otti To Quit And Follow His True Allies

Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure, on Friday called on Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to openly declare his allegiance to the newly formed opposition coalition and stop hiding under the Labour Party banner.

Abure accused Governor Otti of engaging in anti-party activities, noting that several key figures within Otti’s political circle—including Senator Nenadi Usman, chair of the controversial caretaker committee, and LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi—have already aligned with the opposition coalition. According to Abure, Otti’s continued claim of loyalty to the Labour Party is nothing but a calculated deception.

Reacting to Otti’s recent interview reaffirming his commitment to LP, Abure said:
“We’ve seen Otti’s claims that he is still a Labour Party member. We will not be fooled again by such double-dealing.”

He questioned how Otti could profess loyalty to LP while organizing Abia’s local government elections under the Zenith Labour Party and supporting a caretaker committee that has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“That’s not just anti-party—it’s outright sabotage,” Abure asserted.

He further revealed that Otti had already been suspended indefinitely from the Labour Party over his conduct, stating:
“It’s shocking that Governor Otti continues to parade himself as a member of our party despite his suspension and clear actions against us.”

Labour Party Charts Independent Path to 2027

Abure made it clear that the Labour Party has no interest in joining any coalition for the 2027 general elections. Instead, he said the party is focused on building grassroots support and connecting with young Nigerians who genuinely care about the country’s future.

“We are the most trusted political brand in Nigeria today. The Labour Party stands firm and will not be part of any opportunistic alliance made up of strange bedfellows chasing power for personal gain,” Abure declared.

He ended his statement with a final warning to Governor Otti:
“You cannot sabotage the party from within and still claim membership. It’s time he formally exits the Labour Party and stops undermining it from the shadows.”
