Drama In Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: IPOB Accuses FG Of Witness Fraud

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Federal Government of attempting to deceive the court by presenting a false witness in the ongoing trial of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

According to IPOB, the witness—identified as Prosecution Witness BBB (PW-BBB)—is a planted impostor with no legitimate ties to the Department of State Services (DSS), allegedly being coached to pose as an insider with knowledge of Kanu’s detention.

In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group condemned what it described as a “shameful act” and an outright “trial by ambush.” They noted that PW-BBB’s name and statement were never included in the initial list of prosecution witnesses, calling the last-minute inclusion a serious breach of legal ethics.

The statement read:

“IPOB strongly denounces the Nigerian government’s repeated manipulation of judicial processes in the trial of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The most recent disgrace is the introduction of PW-BBB, an individual with no DSS background, who was completely discredited under cross-examination as a government-backed actor.”

The group urged Justice James Omotosho to take note of what they described as a gross abuse of judicial procedure and to protect the integrity of the court.

IPOB further accused the government of weaponizing the legal system to maintain Kanu’s prolonged detention. They referenced independent reports and visits by UK consular officials confirming that Kanu remains in solitary confinement, despite official denials.

“No stage-managed witness can overwrite the facts,” the statement continued, accusing PW-BBB of delivering a performance filled with evasive answers like “I don’t know,” “It’s not my job,” and “No one told me.”

IPOB vowed to unmask the true identity and motive behind PW-BBB, calling on the international community to hold the Nigerian government accountable. The group also urged the media to avoid echoing state-sponsored falsehoods, and to stand firm for truth and justice.

“Trying to prop up the testimony of a coached impostor insults not just Nnamdi Kanu, but the entire Nigerian judiciary. IPOB demands his unconditional release and calls on all media to resist becoming tools of propaganda. This is a crucial moment for truth and constitutional order,” the group concluded.
