The victims were freed during a late-night operation carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Mrs. John-Paul is the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
A police source who spoke to Channels Television said two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun duel with operatives involved in the rescue mission.
Two firearms were also recovered from the suspects during the operation.
According to the source, sustained intelligence gathering and tactical pressure forced the kidnappers into an armed confrontation, which ultimately led to the successful rescue of the victims.
Security operatives are reportedly continuing search operations in surrounding areas to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnapping gang, some of whom are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
Mrs. John-Paul and her sons were abducted earlier on June 3, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. while she was taking the children to school in Ibadan.
In a prior statement confirming the abduction, Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, expressed the family’s distress over the incident.
“We are deeply distressed by this unfortunate incident but remain hopeful that the victims will be rescued safely. We appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and support ongoing efforts with prayers,” the statement read.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She reportedly retired voluntarily from First Bank Pension Custodian in 2025 before relocating to Ibadan with her children.
